Stories as You Remember

I think a fun feature to our blog might be stories and favorite things you remember from UTC and your football experience. You can tell a story about yourself or someone else. Send them to me and I will post them. Steve Bevilaqua at stebev@gmail.com

An update from Larry P.

Please do put my info out for all to please contact me. I see Mickey Brocas about once a year, he’s in the Atlanta area. Chuck Taylor is semi-retired in the Carroll Co. school system, that’s in Carrollton. Dennis Cook is coaching in Mt. Zion, Ga., I see them maybe once a year. Big Jim Hampton’s brother Donnie is a coach in Blue Ridge, Ga. He keeps me up to date with Jim who’s still on his farm in Spring City. Jimmy Linderman is back in Summerville at his old high school, Chattooga Co., as AD and I think acting head football coach. Mark Crews is younger than us a lot, but played at UTC, he’s head coach at Brookwood High, one of the best programs in the state. I ran across Bubba Manning in Cumming, Ga. about ten years ago but I’ve lost that contact since. Adam Winegarden played QB at UTC in recent years and is now the head coach at Dalton, he is married to Pete James’ daughter. He said Pete is in Memphis and is the Mr. Over 55- West Tennessee, and is in great shape of course. My wife and I both retired from School Administration a couple of years ago . We are able to travel a lot. I coached around in North Georgia for about 20 years. I coached at Haralson Co., Central of Carrollton, Cherokee Co., Jefferson, and Lagrange ,all in Ga. I worked for the Falcons and BLESTO a scouting combine in my spare time when I got out of coaching during the era of Jerry Glanville , what a hoot. I still get a press pass for all the Falcon games, so I pull for them. I taught Staff Development courses for several years. I mention that because one of my students was Coach Tom Weathers, when he retired from Red Bank he needed credits to get certified in Georgia. If you will go to northganow.com you can view the football game of the week, I’ve been the color commentator with the local cable companies for about 10 years I get to visit high schools and find out about “Old UTC Players”. My real second career has turned out to be yard work ,which I need the exercise. But my favorite job is babysitting my grandsons whom live two doors down from us. I get to play with them daily!! I can access the contact info on all the guys I mentioned if you need it. Let me know about your life, in your picture you looked healthy and happy, as you can tell I’ve had a very blessed life and am very grateful for my families health and blessings. I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you in the spring. P.S . Do you know the circumstances of Steve Cutchins’ or William Martin’s death? I just remembered Mel Mosley who would have been at UTC in 1970 but left after a couple of days, he has the stadium named after him in his home town of Ellijay, Gilmer Co. High. Thanks for all you do. Larry

Here is the picture of everyone that came to our reunion on September 20th, 2008. I feel reasonably sure that everyone is in this picture. It was a great event and Steve and I are talking on how to increase the attendance in 2009. Steve came up with the idea of this blog so everyone can stay in touch with each other and as my office manager is typing now, I will always need her help in operating this device, but it is a great idea. Steve and I have a list of all the players from 71 - 75 and we are trying to come up with a strategy to contact each and everyone. We had a great time at this reunion. Most of us had not seen each other in 34 years and that is way too long! As I told you in my last correspondence if it had not been for Duffy's death I might not have been at this event and trust me it was time well spent. I already am looking forward to next year and we will be in touch.
